Successful or not Dubai has the Palm, and now if architect Ho Thieu Tri gets his way Vietnam could have the Peacock.

The Peacock Marina City is planned for one of two sites in the Vietnamese coastal city of Nha Trang, the closest that the communist country has to a beach-side resort town like the Gold Coast.

With two 70 floor towers, one of which will be hotel and the other housing, the design draws deeply from a peacock with a collection of boat-houses arranged in a fan shape radiating away from from the main island that will contain the skyscrapers. Flanked by the five rows of boat-houses each side will be a pier running through the centre of the scheme that culminates with a yacht club.

Set each side of the pier to serve as a visual gateway for the main marina, the towers are designed to present a number of different views. From the back they present right angles towards the land, whilst from the front they curve up in a slender manner with a decorative diagrid adding to the connection for the building at ground level, and expanding at the tops of the towers to create shapes similar to peacocks plumes that will host sky gardens under them.

Unfortunately the designs are still at an early conceptual stage with a site yet to be chosen but they do go to show that architects are starting to dream in Vietnam just like they have in the Middle East.
