Vito Anthony Marcantonio (December 10, 1902 – August 9, 1954) was an American lawyer and socialist[1] politician. Though originally a member of the Republican Party and a supporter of Fiorello LaGuardia, he later switched to the American Labor Party. He defended the rights of Italian-Americans, as well as other ethnic groups in New York City, such as Puerto Ricans and African-Americans.
