Warhawk - Playstation 3 (Released 2007)
This game is known for its massive multiplayer online and that is pretty much all there really is to Warhawk other than the gameplay, weapons, and vehicles are shown below.
The game uses the PlayStation 3 SIXAXIS controller's motion sensing capabilities, allowing players to control aircraft and ground vehicles by tilting the controller in different directions rather than the more conventional methods of using the D-pad or analog sticks. However, a traditional control scheme is optional. The game engine features procedurally-generated water and waves, as well as volumetric clouds. Warhawk features 32-player online battles, with the ability to have 4 players use one PlayStation 3 in split-screen mode on non-[Sony] servers. Any player can enter or exit the game while a match is in progress. Warhawk is able to support the DualShock 3 controller, a software update is required for the game to utilize the controller and its rumble functionality.
The game uses medals and rewards, which are awarded for certain achievements. The developers have hinted at the possibility that these rewards will be adapted to be used as trophies, which are used in the upcoming online service PlayStation Home. Players are also able to customize their characters with armor squad markings, Warhawk paint schemes, and other accessories. More customization options are unlocked as the player increases in rank.
There are a original five maps with 5 sections each, resulting in 25 different permutations of Warhawk game size (player number), not including add-on maps you can purchase online. In a game you are able to choose which areas are open. Archipelago is a group of tropical islands floating high in the air with a giant castle in the middle. The Badlands is a desert canyon area with little civilization and a huge fortress. The Destroyed Capitol map is at the top of skyscrapers in the ruins of the Eucadian capital from the Chernovan invasion. The Island Outpost is a military outpost with bases on each end. It is wanted by both forces, and Eucadia is a mountainous group of islands, linked by bridges, with scattered villages and a large statue overlooking the map.
There are originaly three vehicles for each faction; a Warhawk/Nemesis aircraft, a jeep, and tank. The eponymous Warhawk is the plane for the Eucadian forces and the simialar Nemesis is the plane for the Chernovans. While it has a regular flight mode that resembles a fighter jet it also has a hover mode that resembles a helicopter. An off-road jeep-like vehicle which can carry up to three soldiers; a driver, a passenger, and a machine gunner. The tanks are similar for both sides, just like the jeep. There are three different types of turrets. The Anti-Aircraft Turret functions as a flak gun, intended to destroy warhawks. It has short burst of ammo and long reloading times. The Homing Missile Turret (aka SAM missile) has a good advantage with its lock-on function, but when firing makes your back side vulnerable to enemies. The Heavy Machine Gun Turret is identical to the machine gun on the back of jeeps, but on a solid place. The machine gun has its own ammo count, although somewhat large, you still have to worry about reloading, but doing so only takes a few seconds.
In conclusion if just simply like the onslaught of crazy massive battles then you will find this game pretty interesting, and in a way I would associate this with Star Wars: Battlefront as it's focused on just multiplayer battles. If you happen to enjoy Star Wars: Battlefront, then this is a game you should definitely check out. Oh, and I forgot to mention that you can purchase this game not only at local stores, but through Playstations Online store.
